'Copy Item' is starting existing workflows on items copied.

I've got a 'Copy Item' in a For Each loop that cycles through a list I want to archive to another list. All the list items have a different workflow on them, say approval, and for some reason, the old workflows are firing off again, sending emails out to people when the item is copied over. Any ideas why this would happen or how to stop it?
