Request for approval email containing list of selected items

I am trying to configure the 'request for approval' email to display items which have been seleted via an Infopath form checkbox.  Basically the form will have several options for users to select and these will show as 'yes'/'No' on the sharepoint list - if possible I would like to display the selected items only on the request for approval email.  My initial thoughts are that I would create a multi line text variable, then create a string that would lookup to check which of the relevant columns within Sharepoint have 'Yes' set against them and populate the variable, but unfortunately this is where I get stuck.  Would appreciate any pointers on how to configure this.
