Here's what I have going on. I was tasked with updating an old infopath form with some new fields, and then updating a sharepoint 2010 list with the new form. Certain columns needed to be added to the new form, one being a multiple choice dropdown. The old legacy items on this list did not have this column, so for these items the value is blank. Setting this value causes obvious problems because the schema for those forms does not contain the field, despite it showing up in sharepoint.
To remedy this, I added a second arbitrary sharepoint-level column that is updated from the form value when it is submitted. I ran into issues though, making these 2 columns reference each other. They both have the same possible values and I need them to update each other based on which one was recently changed. IE: If the user opens the form and changes the the field value I need the sharepoint value to change as well, and vice versa. There was not an easy way to do this with SharePoint Designer, the only way I could find was to set flags that the workflow would check, but this caused problems if one value was changed twice in a row, as the flag would already be set.
What I'm trying to do seemingly should be easy to accomplish, but I'm having difficulty finding a way to achieve this functionality within Nintex. I do feel that there is a way to do this and perhaps I just fail at searching. If anyone could provide any advice or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I'm using Nintex 2010 with SharePoint 2010.

Edit: Essentially if there was a way to update 2 columns based on which one was most recently updated, and run this column every time a field is changed, that could possibly work. I'm not sure how to accomplish this though..
